Anna Bean Uí Ghallachóir

Anna was born and raised in a very musical family. Both her parents were singers and encouraged all their children to share their talents. Anna got a lot of her songs from her father as well as from other people from the island. She was very interested in the songs written by Peadar Mac Suibhne while he was working in America. He left his songs in the safekeeping of another Árainn Mhór man Hughie Beag O Domhnaill who also spent his life in America. In 1990 Anna recorded a tape of these songs and later a CD. Anna has been featured many times on Raidio na Gaeltachta and TG4. Anna says “I was also very fortunate to have as my teacher at National School Packie Bonner, who was very interested in old songs, especially Róise Rua’s songs. He also encouraged me to take part in the Oireachtas here in Donegal (in Gleann Colmcille) in 1989.

Rugadh agus tógadh Anna i dteaghlach ina raibh bua an cheoil acu uilig. Ba amhránaithe na tuismitheoirí  agus spreag siad na páistí uilig sa chlann an talann a bhí acu a roinnt leis an phobal. Fuair Anna cuid mhór amhrán óna hathair agus ó dhaoine eile ón oileán. Bhí agus tá suim mhór aici sna hamhráin a chum Peadar Mac Suibhne nuair a bhí sé i Meiriceá. D’fhág sé a chuid amhrán le fear eile ón oileán Hughdie Beag O Domhnaill, a chaith a shaol i Meiriceá fosta. Deir Anna “Bhí an t-ádh orm Packie Bonner a bheith mar mhúinteoir scoile agam. Bhí dúil mhór aige sna seanamhráin agus go háirithe amhráin Róise Rua. Spreag sé mé le páirt a ghlacadh san Oireachtas anseo i nDún na nGall (Gleann Cholmcille) i 1989.
