Griogair Labhruidh

Griogair Labhruidh has long been recognised as one of the most important Gaelic voices of his generation.

As a contemporary, experimental artist who is acutely conscious of tradition, Griogair is able to traverse untrodden ground between traditional Scottish Gaelic music and a host of other genres. A multi-instrumentalist, a poet, scholar and a philosopher, his ideas stem from many years connecting with some of the most profound expressions of his culture. The vanguard of modern Scottish Gaelic music, he combines influences as eclectic as funk, soul, African music and Hip Hop with the heart of the land he calls home. An internationally recognised voice, Griogair has worked with the pre-eminent Hollywood film composer Bear McCreary, featuring on the soundtrack to the global sensation Outlander. He has also traversed the stages of the World music scene with the multi-million record selling Afro Celt Sound System. As an award winning Gaelic singer, he has performed on numerous T.V and radio broadcasts including his 2018, live performance on the BBC along with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

2021 will see his first solo release since he recorded his early debut album ‘Riata’ (2007). Griogair has written, produced and recorded all of the material himself. This album is an adventurous, contemporary mix of his various influences. Drawing upon the rich tapestry of Gaelic traditional music, Griogair weaves indigenous Gaelic music along with mythology into his vibrant arrangements to express his own spiritual ideas about belonging, nature, creativity and artistic expression. The first singles are expected to drop this winter (2020) with videos appearing on streaming services around the same time.
